Services

 Intensive Treatment

One of the priority services at the OMI, this is offered through the residential rehabilitation programme. The service is aimed at athletes who need intensive support at a particular stage of their recovery from a more serious injury, or after an operation.

 Out-patient consultations

Athletes may access the doctors and physiotherapists for treatment on a day to day basis, or for specialist support with particular issues. The support team have a number of specialities between them, offering services such as a bone clinic, the centre for sports cardiology and expertise in unexplained under-performance syndrome. We also have regular clinic specialising in women's health issues.

We also have a psychology service that specialises in the mental side of recovery from injury and a nutrition service that can provide practical support for a range of issues.

Sports Physiology

The physiology team provides expert support for squads throughout the season, both at home and abroad, collecting performance data and providing practical feedback to the coach. Advice is also given on specific issues relating to training and competition, for example challenging environmental conditions including heat, altitude and extreme cold.

Research

The work carried out in this unit is highly applied in nature and underpins the practical work of the other departments. Current projects include leading the development of the Acclimatisation Strategy for Beijing (supported by UK Sport) and the role of vibration training in recovery from injury.
